Summary
DCPS delivered four newly constructed carport structures for a multifamily apartment community, providing durable covered parking, energy-efficient lighting, and fully refreshed asphalt with seal coating and restriping designed for both standard and compact vehicles.
Challenge
The east row of carports ran directly above an active EV charging system, with power lines extending the full north to south length of the structure. This constraint required careful planning, precise excavation, and close coordination to avoid service disruption or safety hazards while maintaining the project schedule.
Solution
DCPS relied on its established specialized team to execute the work efficiently and safely. DCPS leaders coordinated engineering requirements, while project managers and coordinators streamlined material procurement, delivery timelines, subcontractor alignment, and on-site logistics. This integrated approach ensured the carport installation stayed on track despite electrical infrastructure constraints.
Construction began with locating and drilling each caisson for the structural columns. Columns were set, braced, and secured with concrete footers before the installation of rafters, purlins, and the remaining structural framework. Once framing was complete, crews installed the roof sheeting and trim. The final construction stages included lighting installation, painting the carport structures, and applying a fresh seal coat and new parking striping to the asphalt.
