Pet Yard Construction

Multi-Family Complex Pet Yard Construction

A Multi-Family Complex wanted to boost attractiveness to incoming residents by expanding the pet yards on select units.

Location

Englewood, CO

Summary

Fenced outdoor spaces were added to an Englewood apartment complex’s first floor units to enhance resident amenities and appeal to pet owners.

Challenge

Although first-floor units at this Englewood apartment complex included patios, their standard size did not offer enough outdoor space for residents with pets, limiting the experience of current residents as well as the property’s attractiveness to prospective residents with pets.

Solution

The DCPS team addressed this gap by creating functional low-maintenance pet yards that would offer privacy and convenience for pet owners. Decomposed granite was used for the ground surface, and ornamental iron fencing was selected to provide security without obstructing views or affecting the aesthetic of the property.

The project began with the removal of the existing landscaping around the first-floor patios to clear the area for the installation of the pet yards. Once the site was prepared, decomposed granite was installed to create a level, compacted surface that could withstand regular pet use.

Next, the DCPS team removed the original railings surrounding the first-floor unit patios to accommodate the new yard layout. Ornamental iron fencing was installed to fully enclose each yard, providing secure outdoor areas for residents and their pets.

The completed pet yards gave the apartment complex a highly marketable feature, meeting the demand for pet-friendly amenities while enhancing the appeal of first-floor units.
