A local concrete pedestrian bridge and walkway was showing signs of age and was in need of repair

Challenge

The city prioritized its bridge maintenance budget to ensure the upkeep of critical infrastructure. As part of this initiative, funds were allocated to repaint a pedestrian bridge walkway.

Solution

The project team implemented a comprehensive surface preparation and repainting plan for 10,000 square feet of concrete. With the pedestrian ramp was painted four years prior, the maintenance work was essential to restore and protect the structure.

The project began with a thorough power washing of all surfaces using a pressure washer set to 2500-3000 psi. This ensured the removal of dirt, grime, and any previous coatings, leaving a clean, smooth surface for the new paint. For areas that couldn’t be fully addressed by the power washer, hand tools were employed to meticulously clean and prepare those surfaces.

Once the surfaces were properly cleaned, the team proceeded with caulking and priming, preparing the structure for its fresh coat of paint. Care was taken to mask and protect any surrounding surfaces that could be exposed to overspray, ensuring a clean and professional finish. To provide a durable finish suitable for exterior environments, the team used a high-quality waterproof masonry coating. This coating maximizes performance in demanding outdoor conditions and offers exceptional chemical and corrosion resistance. With a fast-drying application and superior coverage, the team was able to apply fewer coats compared to conventional products, completely the project in a week and half.
