DCPS Hosts Annual Landscape Rodeo to Kick Off Season with a Safety Focus

Denver, CO – April 3, 2025

On Friday, March 21, DCPS, a leading commercial property services company, brought together its Landscape Maintenance crews and managers for the company’s annual Landscape Rodeo, a hands-on safety training event held at the company’s 5.5 acre yard in Commerce City. Designed to reinforce best practices and ensure a strong start to the landscape season, the event focused on sharpening skills, reinforcing safety protocols, and fostering a safety-first mindset among team members.

Crews rotated through multiple interactive training stations covering mower operations, small equipment handling, pesticide application, vehicle setup, and spotter safety and cone tapering in accordance with Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) standards. Each station provided hands-on experience and expert instruction, ensuring that every team member gained practical knowledge essential to perform their work safely, efficiently, and in alignment with both regulatory compliance and DCPS’s own elevated safety and performance standards.

“At DCPS, safety is a top priority,” said Ronnie Kenfield, Landscape Division at DCPS. “The Landscape Rodeo is our way of making sure every team member starts the season with the skills and confidence needed to operate safely and efficiently. Our goal is to send everyone home at the end of the day just as they arrived—safe and sound.”

A key theme of this year’s event was teamwide accountability and shared responsibility. DCPS emphasized the importance of embracing a unified safety culture—one where leadership leads by example and all team members are empowered to speak up, support one another, and take ownership of workplace safety. “If you see something, say something” was echoed throughout the day, reinforcing the company’s proactive approach to hazard identification and risk mitigation.

“At DCPS, we view safety as a dynamic system—one that requires disciplined execution, continuous evaluation, and leadership engagement at every level,” said Richelle Brasher, Safety and Risk Manager at DCPS. “True operational excellence in the commercial sector is built on a foundation of safety. It reduces exposure, enhances workforce reliability, and safeguards the integrity of service delivery. Our annual Landscape Rodeo is not just a training event—it’s a strategic investment in our people, our clients, and our long-term performance. Continuous improvement isn’t optional—it’s how we lead.”

By investing in comprehensive and proactive safety training, DCPS continues to set the standard in the industry, equipping its teams with the tools, knowledge and leadership support necessary to maintain safety, precision, and professionalism throughout the season. As the landscaping season gets underway, the lessons learned at this year’s rodeo will serve as the operational foundation for another year of exceptional service and unrelenting commitment to safety.
