DENVER – April 28, 2023 |
To celebrate Arbor Day, an annual holiday typically celebrated with planting a tree, 9News tapped our in-house certified arborist, Tony Hahn, to discuss the importance of planting native trees.
Native trees are resilient and can handle the Colorado weather. Once established, native tree species can thrive without supplemental fertilization, watering, and pruning, and they help maintain biodiversity.
Tony offered additional suggestions on types of native trees to consider planting – Rocky Mountain Glow Maple, Gamble Oak, Mountain Ash, or Bur Oak and emphasized the importance of researching the type of tree and planting them correctly to ensure optimal health. From colorful or flowering to drought or alkaline soil tolerant, there are plenty of native species to select from.
